Oh, you BASTARD. That's worse than being Rick-Rolled, thank you. I mean, yes, I've sat through this movie more than once (by choice)...and yeah, I own it--but still. That's like kicking a guy in the junk when he's not looking.

Seriously, why the hell was Gene Kelly in that movie?

I forgot to add, yes, I too sat through this movie more than once. Why?

- I was a child. I didn't know any better.
- It was the early days of HBO when they showed the same movie about twenty-right times in a month.
- I would watch anything back then to drown out the sound of my family.
- My sister liked it.
- My dad was never around to slap some sense into me.
- At that age, I was kind of a special FX junkie, no matter how shitty they were, and Olivia Newton-John did have magical orange star-trails shooting behind her. Shitty magical orange star-trails, but I was too young to recognize it.

Looking back, I consider running this movie when children could see it particularly irresponsible on HBO's part, and I intend to sue them back to the stone age.

P. S. I tried to sing that once at karaoke on rollerskates and I totally ended up landing on my ass when XTC spun me. I'm not tough enough to handle Olivia at her peak, apparently. BUT AT LEAST I TRIED.

Seriously, looking at this made me realize a few things.

1. Olivia Newton-John was an obvious anorexic.
2. The late 70's sucked.
3. No matter how cool the actual counter-culture may or may not have been then, anything that got put through the Hollywood Bullshit Grinder at that time was doomed.
4. We can only pray we don't look this ridiculous to our children thirty years from now.
5. Even Gene Kelly sometimes needs to pay the bills.

(ELMO,I DID NOT have anything to do with this, if you did- you will PAY. ;->)

I liked this movie when I was 12- becuase I went roller-skating every Friday night. In my 20's I saw part of it again and realized how bad it was, but so bad as to be somehow fond in a cult way. Frankly, I don't understand it myself. It may have been the beginning of the end for me.

I can't blame you for just wasting 4 minutes and 23 seconds (actual) of my life. In my insomnia, I went willingly. But E, I still almost want you to be be called 'Xanadu'- for a time. :shrug:

Edit: About 30 seconds in I thought, coming from you, it was going to be some lost take in which someone took a roller skate to the head.
